Hotel Sustainablity
Located in the picturesque village of Wark on the outskirts of Northumberland National Park, Battlesteads is a venue with a focus on service and hotel sustainability.
I was invited to photograph a new sustainable menu, carbon-neutral heating, biomass hot water systems, solar PV panels and extensive gardens with two polytunnels that provide fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables for the kitchen throughout the year. Toiletries are all organic and locally sourced and food waste kept to the minimum, the use of empty toilet roll inners for potting seedlings and the wormeries munching through kilos of discarded food to create compost for the on-site mushroom farm. Hotel sustainability is a growing area for owners and guests alike and Battlesteads is a successful pioneering ambassador for the Hotel industry.
